kuala lumpur: goodbye to kl and g'day to mel

jamie and i are quickly developing a pattern whereby he painstakingly plans out our day the night before and i adapt those plans in the morning. but it seems to be working quite well (in my opinion). our last day in KL is no exception to this. we went straight to the KL tower and up onto the observation deck.

the views were incredible but i must admit that i didn't fare well and experienced a little bit of fear. i left jam with the camera and shot back down to put my feet on the ground. jam used this opportunity well and proceeded to litter my camera with selfies.

after that we went to jalan alor in bukit bintang for some lunch, when we asked the taxi driver to take us there he remarked "food street!" so it seems that this is recognised as an area for eating. we got some great noodles and rested taking in the local surroundings. we made a visit to central market where we perused the local goods for sale.

our flight to melbourne was at 23.45 so we had some time to pass before needing to go the airport. we went back to the hotel and, wanting to relax for a bit, we had some back massages. however the massages weren't exactly the relaxing massages we expected and felt like quite a work out for our spines. on leaving the spa jamie declared to me that he was extremely tired and needed to sleep. he then proceeded to sleep at the hotel until our taxi arrived, for the one hour taxi ride to the airport, at the airport and for most of the eight hour flight to melbourne. we arrived in melbourne at 11am where jamie was tired for the whole day and then slept for 14 hours. apparently invigorating back massages give jamie "profound fatigue". so we won't be doing that again.

our first day in melbourne was spent mostly trying not to sleep! it was great to see my aunt, jo, and my uncle, jurgen. my brother jon, who is staying here, was visiting sydney for the day. we went to prahran market and had a really good time looking around at all the stalls and shops. had a drive along the beach and went to the port where we had a beer in the sun and finished the day of with a good old aussie bbq courtesy of jurgen the bbq master.
